The Plaza Premium company is expanding its reach from airport lounges into airport hotels at major transit hubs such as Singapore, London and Abu Dhabi.

Each hotel will ideally be located within the airport terminal so that travellers can quickly check in and check out to make the most of their stopover time.

Australian Business Traveller has confirmed that Plaza Premium plans to open its first airport hotel at Singapore's Changi Airport in late 2015, with a second to follow in London.

There are also plans for a new Abu Dhabi airport hotel to open by mid-2016.

The boutique properties will have between 50 and 70 rooms and be geared as much to short-term stays of as little as three hours through to half-day rates, along with full 24 hour stays, with a restaurant and spa attached.

The airport hotels will be launched under a new brand but carrying the 'by Plaza Premium' tagline.

The Hong Kong-based company is best known for its network of branded airport lounges across Asia as well as recently-opened facilities in London, Vancouver and Abu Dhabi.

Plaza Premium also manages lounges for airlines and airline alliances, including Cathay Pacific's The Bridge at Hong Kong and SkyTeam's new Sydney Airport lounge.

[An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed Hong Kong instead of London as a location for a Plaza Premium airport hotel]
