Air New Zealand is setting the Internet free, with passengers on all of its WiFi-enabled aircraft able to stay connected above the clouds without spending a cent.

The Star Alliance member already has high-speed WiFi fitted to most of its Boeing 777 jets, which are typically seen on trans-Tasman, US and London routes, along with the new Airbus A321neo jets now darting between Australia and New Zealand. Air New Zealand's Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet has yet to be WiFi-enabled.

During a recent flight on AirNZ's A321neo we clocked download speeds between 1.4 and 4.7Mbps, with uploads at 3.2 to 5Mbps.
